Kiyoshi Jyoukou, whose shimenawa (sacred rope) we came across at a folk art store was so beautiful that the owner of the store told us about him. He is a shimenawa craftsman whom we call “Jicchan. Jicchan does everything by himself, from making the rice straw to harvesting the rice this July. Making Shime-nawa, which are decorated at the end of the year, begins with rice planting in the spring. Preparation is necessary for everything. I admired Jichan's uncompromising efforts to create a beautiful finished product. Originally, Jicchan started straw crafting to raise funds for his activities to preserve the original landscape of Ehime with its rice paddies, but it has since become a traditional craft. Please take a look at the genuine Shichigosanawa woven by Jocha-san, which will not be around forever. The “Sun Project,” which passes on Jicchan's traditional techniques, is led by his own grandson and is now in its fourth year.
The crane is a symbol of longevity, and is an indispensable lucky charm for celebrations. In ancient China, cranes and turtles were also regarded as symbols of longevity, and this idea was introduced to Japan, where they have been revered as auspicious birds. In addition, cranes and turtles make a good couple and stay together throughout their lives. This piece is useful as a gift, not only for the year-end and New Year holidays, but also as a celebration. It can be a housewarming gift, a wedding gift, a birth gift, or a small token of appreciation. You can use only cranes or only turtles, but please use a set of cranes or turtles. Please try them as a set.
