We’ve selected a variety of mountain wildflowers from Gotemba—perfect to display in your home or to give as a seasonal, tasteful gift.

Red-Flowering Miyama Matatabi (Sekika Miyama Matatabi)
A rare variety of Actinidia tetramera, this plant is known for its red or pink blossoms, blooming in early to mid-summer (June–July). Like the standard Matatabi, its leaves tip white during flowering, but this variety is especially striking as the tips later turn a reddish-pink hue. After blooming, some leaves take on a purplish-red tint, adding to its charm.

The plant is adapted to thrive with infrequent watering—once every three weeks is usually sufficient—making it resilient to drought and well-suited to a variety of environments. In the wild, it utilizes rain during the growing season and withstands changing climate patterns with strength.

Unlike regular Matatabi, the young stems and vines of this plant often take on a purplish-brown tone and are covered in fine hairs, giving the entire plant a slightly reddish appearance.

Bring a touch of the wild mountains into your home with this uniquely beautiful and hardy plant.
