These petite hydrangeas, grown in pot size, are affectionately named “Pojisai.”
“Pojisa”i takes advantage of the natural traits of yamajisai (mountain hydrangea), which is known for its small but numerous blossoms. Delicate and airy, the flowers seem to overflow from their small pots, wrapping their surroundings in a gentle softness.

Hydrangeas are originally native to Japan.
Much like how peonies and chrysanthemums that are bred overseas and reintroduced to Japan are referred to as Western peonies or Western chrysanthemums, the large, globe-shaped hydrangeas often seen in town are actually varieties developed abroad and then brought back—essentially “reverse-imported.”
In contrast, Japan’s native hydrangeas are the yamajisai (mountain hydrangea) and gakuajisai (lacecap hydrangea).

These yamajisai have been carefully cultivated by Reiko Yoshioka, a grower who combines traditional beauty with refined breeding. The gentle, graceful aura of her hydrangeas carries a warmth reminiscent of a mother’s care.
