Tango no Sekku, also known as the Iris Festival, is traditionally a celebration of boys' growth in samurai families. The flower shōbu (iris) is displayed during this time, as its name is a homophone for words meaning "victory" (shōbu) and "military spirit" (shōbu). The sword-like shape of the iris leaves also symbolizes protection and warding off evil spirits.

    The iris blooms twice.
While Iris ensata blooms quickly from its first bud, which may make it seem short-lived, a second bud patiently waits its turn. To enjoy this second bloom, simply remove the withered first flower.
Its elegant leaves are also a delight, making it perfect to display together with the blossoms.

For those who want to enjoy the beauty of iris flowers, we offer a casual yet thoughtful arrangement in a traditional Japanese flower basket. While purple is the classic iris color, we use a rare and special white variety in this arrangement.

Please note: "Furo-shōbu" (used in traditional Japanese iris baths) is a different plant from Iris ensata. If you wish to enjoy iris baths, please prepare those separately. Here, we invite you to enjoy the unique two-time blooming feature of Iris ensata.
