Iwagarami is a close relative of the hydrangea.
While it hasn’t bloomed yet, it already has buds and should flower soon.

Its blossoms resemble those of gaku-ajisai (lacecap hydrangea), but in white. The outer petals—technically called decorative flowers—are especially delicate and look like small white leaves. Compared to lacecap hydrangeas, iwagarami gives a softer, more ephemeral, and refreshing impression.

In addition, its leaves are hardier than those of standard hydrangeas, so the foliage can also be enjoyed throughout the season. During the right time of year, iwagaram i sometimes appears in floral arrangements as greenery.

This particular piece from Gotemba features a bonsai-style branch formation, housed in an antique-style container—adding to its character and elegance.

    Care Instructions:
Place in a sunny spot except during midsummer.
As the name iwagarami ("rock climber") suggests, it likes to climb and cling, so provide a stake or some structure it can attach to.
Much like hydrangeas, it loves water, so be sure to keep it well hydrated.
