The name Hotarubukuro (meaning "firefly pouch") comes from an old children's custom in Japan—placing fireflies inside the flowers and playing with them like glowing lanterns.
However, the Hotarubukuro we found this time in Gotemba has a unique shape that makes it seem nearly impossible to catch a firefly in it.

This particular variety is a cultivated form of a wild species that naturally grows on Takeshima Island and is known as Takeshimana. Its tentacle-like petals gave rise to the nickname “Octopus.”

As with most mountain wildflowers, it generally prefers a cool, semi-shaded environment.
Pink Octopus should be kept in partial shade during its blooming period, but when not in bloom, it prefers a sunny spot.
Please note that it is sensitive to heat, so during the summer months, try to keep it in the coolest place possible.

    Size: H35cm × D13cm | Pot size: H9cm × φ11cm
